Grants and funding ## How we size a heat pump to your house. ## Why it matters. A heat pump works best running low and steady. To do that, it has to match the heat your house loses, room by room, on a cold day. The survey gives us that figure, and the rest of the design follows from it. - **Survey the house**: We measure each room and record the walls, windows, loft and floor insulation and ventilation, along with your existing radiators and pipework. - **Work out the heat loss**: Each room gets its own heat loss figure. Added together, they tell us what the system has to deliver on the coldest days. - **Design the system**: We do the heating design ourselves: heat pump size, flow temperature, radiators, pipe sizes, hot water cylinder and controls. If a radiator needs to change, we'll show you which one and why before you decide. - **Install and hand over**: The system goes in through our partner, Alto Energy. It shows how much heat each room loses and what the system has to deliver, and we design around that. If something needs to change first, such as insulation or a radiator, we'll say so. - **Why do heat pumps have a mixed reputation?**: When heat pumps first came onto the market, a lot of installers hadn't been trained properly. Pipes went in uninsulated and systems weren't set up right, so they ran badly. Installed correctly, a heat pump saves you money on your energy bills. - **Can I get a grant for a heat pump in Scotland?**: Homeowners living in their own home can apply to Home Energy Scotland for a grant of up to £7,500, with an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500. Our grants and funding page explains who qualifies and what to do before work starts. - **Do you still fit boilers?**: Yes. A heat pump isn't the right answer for every house, and we install, service and repair boilers too.
