Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps in Glasgow, sized to your house.

Every heat pump we fit starts with a heat loss survey, and we do the heating design ourselves. The install goes in through our partner, Alto Energy, with every pipe insulated and the system set up to the design.

Why it matters

Installed properly, a heat pump saves you money.

Heat pumps picked up a bad name early on. When they first came onto the market, a lot of installers hadn't been trained properly. Pipes went in uninsulated and systems weren't set up right, so the heat pumps ran badly.

Installed correctly, a heat pump saves you money on your energy bills. That means measuring the house first, designing the system around it, insulating every pipe run and setting the controls up to the design, then showing you how to use them.

That's how we work on every job. We follow the right procedures and skip nothing, and you deal with us from the first call to the handover.

The heat loss survey

How we size a heat pump to your house.

  1. Step 01

    Survey the house

We measure each room and record the walls, windows, loft and floor insulation and ventilation, along with your existing radiators and pipework.

  2. Step 02

    Work out the heat loss

Each room gets its own heat loss figure. Added together, they tell us what the system has to deliver on the coldest days.

  3. Step 03

    Design the system

We do the heating design ourselves: heat pump size, flow temperature, radiators, pipe sizes, hot water cylinder and controls. If a radiator needs to change, we'll show you which one and why before you decide.

  4. Step 04

    Install and hand over

The system goes in through our partner, Alto Energy. Pipes are insulated, the system is set up to the design, and we take you through the controls before we leave.

What the survey covers

Reviews

What customers say about their heat pumps

  • Allan & Gary installed our heat pump in April and I could not be happier with their work and knowledge. The workmanship was excellent, they kept all work areas clean and tidy. Changing from a Gas Boiler to Heat Pump can seem daunting but they would answer any question or queries I had on the system to ensure I knew how to operate it going forward and gave me confidence I was doing the right thing. Highly recommended company.

Questions

Heat pump questions

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

It depends on the house: its size, how much heat it loses, and what needs to change, such as radiators or the hot water cylinder. That's why we survey first. Quotes are free, and homeowners in Scotland may be able to get a Home Energy Scotland grant of up to £7,500 towards the cost.

Will a heat pump work in an older house?

Plenty of older houses run well on a heat pump, but it depends on the insulation and the radiators. The survey tells us, and if something needs to change first, we'll say so before you commit.

Why do heat pumps have a mixed reputation?

When heat pumps first came onto the market, a lot of installers hadn't been trained properly. Pipes went in uninsulated and systems weren't set up right, so they ran badly. Installed correctly, a heat pump saves you money on your energy bills.

Who installs the heat pump?

We survey the house and do the heating design ourselves. The install goes in through our partner, Alto Energy, and you deal with us from the first call to the handover.

Can you help with the grant?

We can talk you through which scheme fits and what you need before work starts. You apply to Home Energy Scotland yourself, and you need their written offer before any work begins. Our grants and funding page has the detail.
